MILNTHORPE - In the small hours of 11 August a Fastline tamper caught fire on the WCML. Single line working had to be imposed until 1830, leading to long delays. 13 photos show repair work in hand at Milnthorpe, and the single line working.

OUBECK - 175103 Mum was derailed by a landslip just south of Lancaster. 5 photos show the DMU being recovered from Lancaster to Carnforth by WCRC 47854 & 47826, plus a later shot of the damaged car in Steamtown.

34 photos of the little known 'little North Western' line from Settle Junction to Carnforth. A number taken in winter 2005 show the Midland signalbox at Wennington, once a busy junction where trains between the West Riding and Morecambe or Carnforth joined or were divided. The line now carries only 5 trains a day between Leeds and Lancaster or Morecambe, and the signalbox, long switched out, was due to be closed and demolished in 2006. (This took place in April - see my Rail 2006 - Settle-Carlisle/Carnforth collection).)

10 photos taken during a Compass Tour from Barrow to Cardiff over the little-visited Central Wales line from Shrewsbury to Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan coastal line via Barry, then 17 taken at Cardiff Central while awaiting the return via Hereford.
